Notes:
For support for ACU or Smart Array controllers, please visit Contact HP.

For feedback or suggestions on ACU, please send comments to [email protected]; however, we regret that support cannot be provided through this address.

The legacy ACU (native win32 application) and ACU executables can not be run on the same server at the same time; however, configurations created with one utility should be compatible with those created by the other.

Users will automatically be logged out after a predetermined period of inactivity when using ACU and will have to re-login.

On the Web-based Management Device Homepage, under 'options', 'Anonymous Access' should be enabled when using ACU.

When clicking on a controller that is currently being configured in a different ACU session, a message will appear which allows you to override the other ACU session or cancel. If you choose to override the other ACU session, any unsaved changes in the other session will be discarded.

To uninstall ACU, use Add/Remove Programs located in the Control Panel on Windows Systems.

To run ACU in local application mode on Windows, Internet Explorer must be the default browser.

The following are known issues:

  • Sometimes the login on the Device Home Page will not work the first time. Click on the Device Home Page link again or refresh the page and re-login.
  • When using Linux as the host operating system, if a Smart Array controller has 16 or more volumes configured, deleting any volume in the ACU will not update the /proc/partitions to reflect the deletion of the device node associated with that volume. Rebooting the server will cause the update to happen. Note that there is also a limitation that only the first 16 volumes configured will be available to the operating system.

Support for Smart Array P721m

Version:9.10.22.0 (4 Jun 2012)

Upgrade Requirement:
Optional - Users should update to this version if their system is affected by one of the documented fixes or if there is a desire to utilize any of the enhanced functionality provided by this version.

Added support for the following controllers:

  • HP Dynamic Smart Array B120i
  • HP Dynamic Smart Array B320i
  • HP Smart Array P822

Added support for Simplified Chinese
Now officially supporting and providing native X64 versions in addition to existing 32 bit versions
Added new features requiring a valid SAAP 2.0 (Smart Array Advanced Pack) license key:

  • Replace Array
    • Allows the transfer of contents of an array to an existing empty array or a new array. All logical drives from the source array will be transferred. The original array will be deleted and its data drives will be freed as unassigned drives. The drive types at source and destination arrays can be different. This allows moving data from SATA to SAS, or SAS to SATA. However, the drive types comprising the array must still be of the same type.
  • Heal Array
    • Allows the replacement of failed or degraded physical drives in an array with healthy physical drives. The original array and logical drive numbering will be unaffected after the replacement. The replacement physical drives must be of the same interface type (such as SAS, SATA and etc.) as the original drives. The operation will be available only if enough unassigned physical drives of the correct size are available.
  • Spilt Mirror BackupRollback
    • Create Split Mirror Backup
      • This task splits an array that consists of one or more RAID1, RAID 1+0, RAID 1 (ADM), or RAID 10 (ADM) and creates two arrays: A primary array and a backup array. The new arrays have the following characteristics:
        • If the original array contained RAID 1 or RAID 1+0 drives, the primary array will contain RAID 0 drives.
        • If the original array contained RAID 1 (ADM) drives, the primary array will contain RAID 1 drives.
        • If the original array contained RAID 10 (ADM) drives, the primary array will contain RAID 1+0 drives.
        • The backup array always contains RAID 0 logical drives.
        • The primary array continues to be fully accessible to the operating system while the backup array is hidden from the operating system.
      • This feature is useful when you want to capture a backup before performing a risky operation. The Manage Split Mirror Backup operation can be used to either re-mirror the primary and backup arrays, or to make the backup array into an independent array which can be accessed by the operating system.
    • Manage Split Mirror Backup
      • This task allows for the management of the primary and backup arrays created by the Create Split Mirror Backup operation. When the operation is performed on a primary array, the following options are available:
        • Re-mirror the array and preserve the existing data. Discard the backup array. This option re-creates the original mirrored array with the contents of the primary array.
        • Re-mirror the array and rollback to the contents of the backup array. Discard existing data. This option re-creates the mirrored array but restores its contents to the point in time when the backup array was created. It is not recommended that this option be performed online, or while the logical drive to be rolled back is mounted or in use by the operating system.
        • Activate the backup array. This option makes the backup array fully accessible to the operating system.

Note: In the case where the primary array is no longer available. This task can only be used to activate the backup array.
